Former Emmaus pastor Rev. Alan Goertemiller has announced that he will retire on April 15.

Pastor Goertemiller entered the ministry as Associate Pastor here from 1974 to 1978 — Emmaus’s first pastor of non-Scandinavian heritage. Pastor Al then accepted a call to serve as pastor at Providence Lutheran Church, Holland, Ohio, continuing in that ministry through December 1987. In January 1988, Pastor Al was called to serve as Pastor of St. George Lutheran Church, Brighton, Michigan. He has been pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Carmel, Indiana, since 1997.

He and his wife Pat have two adult children, Michael and Allison. He is a volunteer chaplain with the local police department and served a term as Board Chairman of the Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis (2008-2010).
